Speaking for myself, I want to thank you for this excellent tribute to one of the kindest and funniest people I've ever met. All of us who were blessed to be able to spend at least as much time with Magoo out of makeup as in it have found the outpouring of affection from the horror-host and fan community quite touching and comforting. Thanks so much.Eric Parkshttps://www.facebook.com/eric.parks.965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36637916.post-71499625285680402072014-05-17T20:05:37.078-05:002014-05-17T20:05:37.078-05:00Truly a beautiful tribute to Magoo--AND to wonderf...Truly a beautiful tribute to Magoo--AND to wonderful Danielle. Magoo will never really be "gone"--just "away"--and in my mind, Penny and Garou will continue to exist as a team--just with Garou doing his part as a remote broadcast. What a guy he was! I've mentioned these memories elsewhere, but I'll tell the stories again here. The first time I met Penny and Garou, at a Bash it was, he was, of course, being his lupine self, and I found myself just talking away with him--doing some sort of schtick, I don't know--being silly--and he must have asked where I was from. I told him "from a little town near Cincinnati" and something happened--Garou became Magoo! He'd gone to school in Cinci at some point in his youth, and he got to talking about that, and then--suddenly--he caught himself, his eyes got big, and he said, "I broke character! I NEVER break character!" I didn't give it a second thought at that moment, but in the years that followed, I saw that that was true--he was ALWAYS Garou when he and Penny were making an appearance in costume. I always marveled that somehow, in that first meeting, I said something that made him think of his youth and--suddenly Magoo made an appearance, dressed as Garou! I always felt an odd mixture of pride AND embarrassment at having caused that to happen! The other story that means a lot to me happened a few years later, at Wonderfest, when I stopped by their table and by that time of course being a friend of GAROU's, he and I started talking about god-knows-what and I suddenly found we were discussing the poetry of the Victorian writer Robert Browning. Garou was quoting Browning to me--in wolfman-speak! It was hilarious. No funny lines, no puns--but really quoting a Victorian poet, but in that Scoobie-Doo-ish language. Magoo Gelehrter was absolutely a unique soul. I will miss him all the rest of my days, but I know he'll really never be far away.Robert Taylornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36637916.post-83507306154347217642014-05-17T11:37:18.692-05:002014-05-17T11:37:18.692-05:00Well said my friend.Well said my friend.-Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11749897977242776679noreply@blogger.com
