Congratulations Derek Koch and Monsterkid Radio

I'd like to extend an extra special congratulations to my good friend Derek Koch for winning a Rondo Award in the Best Multimedia category for his outstanding podcast, Monster Kid Radio. Derek has been podcasting for a number of years, and works super hard on his program, putting out two episodes a week. MKR is a show that features conversations with fans and industry creators talking about their favorite horror movies and memories of them. It's a really unique show and one I look forward to listening to every week.

Derek Koch - Granny and the Hole

Coming up this Friday on the 6ft Plus podcast I interview Derek Koch, the man behind the1951 Down Place and Mail Order Zombie podcasts. In addition to podcasting Derek is also a writer, and his latest story is offered on Kindle for a mere $1.29. It is called Granny and the Hole, and is about a man named Hugh Hall whose mother-in-law has recently passed away. His wife is naturally upset about this, but Hugh thinks he has a way to solve this situation. Unfortunately, that involves packing Granny's corpse in the trunk of his car and driving to a small town in Nebraska where the dead are returning to life....

This is a great little zombie story, well written, fast paced with a unique idea for how the zombie apocalypse began. Definitely worth reading, and it's less than the cost of a cup of coffee!

1951 Down Place

You know what the best part of the Rondo Awards is? The very best part? Ok, the BEST part is the kickass statues given to the winners - but the next best part is looking over the ballot and finding a link to something cool you never knew existed. That's exactly what happened when I started going through the podcasts nominated on this year's ballot. 1951 Down Place is a new podcast dedicated to Hammer Horror films. There are three hosts -  Derek Koch aka Brother D, Casey Criswell, and Scott Morris, and they discuss various Hammer films each episode in an informative, entertaining and well produced podcast that I really enjoyed. And to top it off imagine my surprise when, in episode 2, I heard my own name invoked! Extra points for referencing Doc G!

Defintiely check this podcast out, as well as all the nominees on this year's Rondo Awards. It is a fantastic reference place to find out about some cool stuff you never knew existed.

And they give away some kick ass statues, too!
