Dr. Gangrene in the Hall of Fame!

 Greetings Fright Fans - I am excited to share some big news with you all - Dr. Gangrene was inducted into the Rondo Award Hall of Fame this year! 

The fact that last year marked my 25th anniversary as a host made it doubly meaningful. It was also my 20th year of hosting movies live at Wonderfest last year, as well as the 20th anniversary of our Horror Hootenanny show held every October (although we missed a couple of years during Covid). AND last year was the year that we got the Sir Cecil Creape historical marker installed in Nashville, something I'm truly proud of. 

This is a true honor, and I'd like to thank David Colton, everyone at the Rondo Awards, and everyone who voted for me this year. The Rondos are THE biggest award in our industry, and to be inducted into the hall alongside such greats as Zacherley, Vampira, Morgus, Chilly Billy, etc. is a true honor (I love that David used the photo of me and Zacherley on the website for the announcement). Congratulations to all the other winners as well as everyone who was nominated. Being recognized by your peers is the best part of the Rondo Awards. It makes it all worthwhile. #rondoawards

Artist William C. Cope

One of the best things about Wonderfest is reconnecting with old friends - AND making new ones. And that's just what happened during the Rondo Award celebration, when I met William C. Cope in person. William won BEST FAN ARTIST in this year's Rondos, and introduced himself while we were posing for a group photo. We were already Facebook friends, but it turns out he also lives in Murfreesboro TN, just down the road an hour or so from me. We discussed staying in touch and working together on projects in the future, as well as what Drive-ins are in the area (Murfreesboro is about to get a brand new one soon)

Today William surprised me by sending this AWESOME portrait of Dr. Gangrene. It was a complete surprise, and I was floored. Very honored to say the least! You are one talented fella, William - the Rondo couldn't have gone to a more worthy candidate!

Dr. Gangrene wins Rondo for BEST HORROR BLOG!

It is my extreme honor to announce that this blog won a Rondo award for
Best Horror Blog of 2014!

Thanks so much to everyone who voted for Dr. Gangrene in the Rondo Awards this year.

2015 has been a great year - First Dr. Gangrene was inducted into the Horror Host Hall of Fame in March, and now a Rondo win too!

This is a category that means a lot to me, as I work hard posting content, reviews, interviews, videos and more throughout the year. It is doubly special as this is the third Rondo Award I've won, and as my friends have heard me say, when i pass away i want to be able to leave one of these for each of my sons. Now I can!

Congratulations to all the other nominees and winners, and a huge thanks to David Colton for all your hard work and for keeping the Rondo Awards alive!

It seems that lately the Doc G illustrations have been appearing left and right, and that was the case again this past weekend as my good friend Roger Koch surprised me tonight with this amazing illustration  - For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting him yet, Roger is a super-talented artist who posts artwork daily on Facebook. Check out his profile and look through the treasure trove of fine art there, you'll quickly see why he was awarded a Rondo Award a couple of years ago. This was a great surprise, and made my night - Roger, I love it my friend - great work! You're the best!

12th Annual Rondo Awards!

The 12th annual Rondo Award nominations have been officially announced and I'm honored to report that I've been nominated for FOUR Rondos!

The Rondo Awards are an annual award for classic horror excellence. Spearheaded by David Colton, they are named after classic Universal actor Rondo Hatton. To be eligible for this year's ballot the work had to have come out in 2013.

Fundraiser Campaign I hope you guys will support

I haven't promoted a lot of fundraiser campaigns over the years, as I either didn't know the filmmakers personally or anything about the project, and therefore it was difficult for me to vouch for the people behind them. I've softened my stance toward them a little over the last few months, and even had some folks hold one that involved my character as the host of a comic book, a horror anthology book, which was pretty cool. But the fundraiser campaign I'm about to mention is way more special and important than any of the ones I've mentioned before, and I wanted to share it in hopes you might be able to contribute in some way...

Danielle and Magoo Gelehrter are a married couple who are really close friends of mine. They also happen to be TV horror hosts like myself, hosts of the 2-time Rondo Award winning (for best horror Host) show SHILLING SHOCKERS, where they portray hosts Penny Dreadful and Garou the werewolf.

 I first met Danielle and Magoo at Wonderfest in Louisville and we hit it off immediately, becoming fast friends.  We stayed in touch, and in 2010 we made the Dreadful Hallowgreen Special together, a short film/crossover combining their hosts and Dr. Gangrene in an adventure to save Halloween. It was great fun making the movie and the working relationship couldn't have been easier.

Magoo (yes that's his real name) was diagnosed with Cancer in October 2012, and has been battling it ever since. They have incurred tremendous medical bills in the process, naturally, and that is what this fundraiser is all about - helping out some really terrific folks in their time of need. If you talk to anyone who has ever met Danielle or Magoo in person the first thing you hear is about what nice people they are. And it's true. They are two of the kindest and most generous folks you'll meet, and they make a fantastic show, too.

Over the years I've met some of the nicest people at horror conventions. The horror community is an amazing collection of people, and I know you guys can help. Wonderfest 2012 report

 Hello all, sorry I've been a little negligent with my postings here. Been a very crazy month or so, both personally and with the show here. I am happy to report that Wonderfest was a smashing success. Lots of fun, saw many good friends again and hosted the 80's schlocktastic film MEGAFORCE Sat night. It was especially great having Bob Burns at the show again this year.After a couple of years off he felt up to traveling and I know the crowd was thrilled to see him.

  At the Rondo Award ceremony it was my honor to induct the one and only Morgus the Magnificent into the Rondo Award Hall of Fame. Thanks, David Colton, for asking me to be a part of the ceremony. Donna Lucas shot video of the entire ceremony, so I hope she got my induction speech and posts it online so I can share it here.

The weekend seemed to come and go quicker than usual, despite my arriving on Friday this year. I had a table this time around, the first time I've fooled with merchandise in years. Was good to have some fresh merch for folks, and thanks to everyone who stopped by to see me. Here's to many more years of Wonderfest fun!!
