Meet The Creeping Cruds New Singer - Jimmy 2Beards

Greetings Fright Fans – Dr. Gangrene here, Nashville’s Physician of Fright, and tonight it’s my  pleasure to introduce you to the newest member of Nashville’s premiere horror band, The Creeping Cruds. They have a lot of big news on the horizon, so put your paws together and give a very cruddy howl of welcome to the Cruds new singer, Jimmy 2Beards.

Welcome, Jimmy! How did the gig with the Cruds come about?
Well, Doc, my path to becoming officially Cruddy started with accepting a frontman position leading the mighty Tinglers (actually The Cruds in misleading disguises) at last year's Shock Hop Tribute Show. Being a constant front row Creeping Cruds maniac (and therefore knowing a good deal of the songs) couldn't have hurt.

What did you do musically before the Creeping Cruds?
Prior to this, musically, I fronted the underrated TwoBeards Shower Time Singers.

What are your favorite/most influential bands?
Favorites include The Boils, The Ramones, The Misfits, and Screeching Weasel. Influential, well, Metallica was the band that started everything thing for me, took me out of oldies rock radio, which was all I knew as a kid. But the Glenn Danzig fronted bands and the mighty Cramps, with their masterful mix of rock and horror have made the biggest impact.

What’s your favorite Cruds song to sing?
I Was A Teenage Werewolf. My favorite part of the Cruds live set for years.

You’re trapped in a secluded castle and can only take one movie with you. What would you choose?
Dawn of the Dead. Not my favorite (that would be Return Of The Living Dead) but the one I can see myself never tiring of.

 Fulci or Argento?
Lucio Fulci, by far. The Godfather Of Gore's mastery of what nauseates and terrifies is legendary.

Zombies: shamble or run?
The shambling dead are the dead for me. In my opinion, zombification is a reset button. Zombies are hungry babies.

I’ve heard the new Cruds song, and think it turned out great! Is it true you almost got arrested making the music video?
Thanks for the kind words, the creative and recording process has been an incredible, as well as surreal experience. As for life in the big house. We came close. Peeping eyes took offense to "objects" being put on the graves. They had no idea they were calling the fuzz on some rather respectful ghouls who left the graveyard as it has been for centuries. As we say at the Cruds Crypt, "Just 10 minutes earlier..."

Does this mean there is a new Cruds album on the horizon?
There's enough Cruddy live favorites that are just itchin' to be finally recorded and a tomb full of new terror tunes being worked on, so a new Creeping Cruds album is definitely showing signs of life, starting to react to the 2-4-5 Trioxin.

What are you going to be for Halloween?
With my home being the yet-to-be infamous Creepsville Cabin, I'm sure my Halloween costume this year will be slasher related, perhaps one of those hockey players, or the homicidal burned caretaker or that little girl that turned out to be a boy.

Ok, fangs and beast of luck to you, Jimmy, and I’ll see you at the next Cruds show, and the Horror
Hootenanny this October! And now, without further adieu, here is the brand new video from The Creeping Cruds - I Eats The Dead.

Jim Ridley Honored at this Year's Nashville Film Festival

Sam Adams at INDIEWIRE.com posted the news yesterday that the Nashville Film Festival will hold an empty seat in every theater "from now on." Sounds like they mean not only this year but every year going forward, from that statement, which is a remarkable tribute to an equally remarkable man.

Jim's passing continues to stun and sadden me. Jim was always such a great friend and ally to all of us here, a true champion for all of Dr. Gangrene's creative ventures. He was so excited back when I first started my TV show, I remember him telling me how great it was that Nashville had a horror host again. He made mention of my events time and again in those early days of cable access zaniness.

I remember a couple years back I ran into him in Nashville one day shortly after I'd started my Fantastic Films of Vincent Price series. He was so excited to hear about it and told me one of his favorite Price films was HIS KIND OF WOMAN, starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Russell, and of course Vincent Price. It is a great film; zany, unusual, quirky and energetic - much like Jim himself. Makes total sense he'd love that one!

As editor, Jim was naturally the one who gave the go-ahead for a Dr. Gangrene cover on the Nashville Scene. I remember he had me come in for a photo shoot to accompany the article (written by Randy Fox), but instructed friends at the Scene (like Randy) to keep the fact I was going to be on the cover quiet, so it would be a surprise for me. And quite the pleasant surprise it was!! Time and time again he would write reviews or mentions of events we were hosting over the years, from live shows to movies, events and more -  and he'd even work humorous mentions of Dr. Gangrene into other folks' events, such as the following from Jan 22nd 2016, during a blurb for a Creeping Cruds show:

The Independents w/The Creeping Cruds & The Lonesome Town Drifters

When: Fri., Jan. 22, 9 p.m. 2016
Price: $12
To non-fans, “horror ska” is redundant, but South Carolina’s The Independents are still skankin’ to wake the dead after almost a quarter-century of shock rock. Managed for a few years by the late Joey Ramone, an ardent admirer, founders Evil Presly and Willy B. have moved farther from the band’s early ska elements toward a punk sound that’s not as garage-y as, say, The Cramps, but still laden with references to black angels, corpses in the rain, and even the much-missed Rudy Ray Moore. Joining them are Nashville’s own psychotronic rockers The Creeping Cruds. If you plan your evenings around the chance of spotting horror host Dr. Gangrene, here’s a pretty safe bet. JIM RIDLEY
Too funny! That one I stumbled across totally out of the blue. But that's how Jim worked, making kind gestures like that without a second thought or expecting anything in return. He got a kick out of it, and I would have thanked him next time I saw him - to which he would naturally have shrugged it off as if it were nothing.

At last year's 12 HOURS OF TERROR festival Jim handed out stacks of paperbacks to the crowd for free.  He gave me one called THE SCREAM by John Skipp and Craig Spectre, which is a heavy metal horror (a favorive sub-sub genre of mine) novel. Jim raved about how much he loved Skipp and Spectre's writing. The book is fantastic, I need to do a proper review of it.

I'll leave you today with this shot of Jim from last year's 12 HOURS OF TERROR fest, where he  introduced THE EVIL SPAWN. Thank you again for your friendship and everything you did for us over the years, Jim. You rock, my friend.

Dr. Gangrene's Horror Hootenanny 11

The details for the 11th annual Dr. Gangrene's Horror Hootenanny are officially announced, and we're excited to announce a new venue this year, as well as a slightly different format. This year we'll be showcasing 3 bands early on in the evening, with a special 40th anniversary/Marilyn Burns tribute screening of Texas Chainsaw Massacre at Midnight, with special guest John GRANDPA Dugan.

Spookhand - Live Flood Benefit Show

I've been meaning to post some pics from the flood benefit show we did a few weeks band. Ironically, it was held at a place called The Pond. Big thanks to all the folks that came out - although it doesn't really look like it in these pics the place was packed. Special thanks to Kitten for taking and sharing these pics, and to the crew of crazy folks at the table up front who rocked out and made us feel right at home! Also to Radio Death Wave and The Creeping Cruds for performing that night too, and the Pond for being cool enough to host a cool horror benefit show for flood victims. Was afun night.

Flood Relief Fundraiser

Tomorrow night in Franklin TN my band, Spookhand, is playing at a fundraiser for flood victims. It takes place at THE POND and the bands playing are us, The Creeping Cruds, Radio Death Wave and some others, I think. If any of you are looking for something to do tomorrow night, come rock out with us and help raise money for some folks that could really use it.

Should be a pretty interesting set as far as Spookhand is concerned. Our drummer is out of town, but Boomer, the drummer for the Creeping Cruds, offered to sit in on a few songs with us. We have never practiced even once with Boomer, but I have faith in him. he's a pro and he has our cd, so he'll be familiar enough with the stuff that we can pull it off without too many problems, I think. Oh well, will be entertaining - that's punk rock!!

Gettin Cruddy - interview with Jeano Roid of the Creeping Cruds

Nashville, Tennessee may be the home of country music, but for the better part of a decade one band has kept the horror flag flying high in Music City. I am of course talking about The Creeping Cruds, widely known as Nashville’s Scariest Band. I recently sat down with Jeano Roid, Cruds lead guitar shredder (sometime vocalist) and monster-kid extraordinaire and discussed his horror influences, background and generally all things horror in the Middle Tennessee area.

Doc G - So Jeano – thanks for rapping with me a bit. You’re not originally from the Nashville area – where did you grow up and when did the horror bug first bite you?

Jeano - I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida and started my obsession with Horror at around 7 or 8 years after seeing the original The Fly. I scoured TV Guide to make sure nothing was aired that I would miss. By the time I was 12 I had seen tons of old Horror and amassed a large collection of Famous Monsters mags and other Horror books.

Doc G - I understand you had a horror host in your area growing up… who was it and were you a fan of his show?

Jeano - Actually we had two Creature Feature shows - one in WPB and one in Ft. Lauderdale. Neither had a host but the WPB show had a super-creepy intro with a narrator who was never shown. Saturday nights at 11:30pm! I missed Saturday Night Live for a decade over that time-slot!

Doc G - When did you first pick up a guitar and were you in many bands in your youth?

Jeano - I got my first guitar at around 18. It wasn't like it is today where every kid at school has a bin-account at Guitar Center. We scoured pawn shops and bought old beaters. I was in several long-lived bands and a few side projects.

Doc G - You later moved to Florida and were in a couple of other bands down there, the best known of which was The Roidz, (which is where the moniker Jeano Roid comes from). Tell me about The Roids.

Jeano - The Roidz was a ultra-nerdy hardcore band that challenged the world! It was the 80's and we blew up right as the SoFlo hardcore scene peaked. Boomer (who was also in The Roidz) have discussed doing a new Roidz record in the near future - time permitting.

Doc G - So when did you first move to Nashville and how long before you formed the Creeping Cruds? How did you meet your fellow Crudsters? Was the band a horror band from day one?

Jeano - I moved to Nashville in 02, but I had already met McNasty and the original bass player Manthon prior to moving. Once we came up with the band name it was a consensus to go all-horror, which is something I had always wanted to do..

Doc G - Are the rest of the Cruds big horror movie buffs too?

Jeano - Yes, to varying degrees. We all love Horror flicks but I'm definitely the most obsessed..

Doc G - I know you’re a huge horror fan like me, so it’s hard to narrow down a favorite film – but if you had to choose, what are a couple of your favorite horror movies?

Jeano - Night of the Living Dead, The Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw are my top three, but I'm a major fan of Karloff and Vincent Price as well. I could make a list but it would be LONG!

Doc G - Your first CD was called “The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who stopped Living and Became the Creeping Cruds.” You sang lead vocals on that one in addition to playing lead guitar. Is singing something you like to do or do you prefer to focus mainly on playing guitar?

Jeano - Actually our original frontman Travis left the band in the middle of recording so I had pretty much no choice but to do the vox myself. Finding a singer was a priority after the CD was done - and we were lucky to find Wolfie almost immediately. I like writing lyrics and recording, but live vocals are best left to someone else!

Doc G - It’s been a couple of years now since the second Cruds CD, “Tennessee Bloodbath.” Any chance of a new album anytime soon?

Jeano - It's been a little over a year now and we're crawling in that direction. We have some new music but we don't usually add new things to the set unless it's tunes and are having fun with covers etc.. We'll wait until the fans just can't take it anymore!

Doc G - I know you are always working on a variety of projects. Tell me about the music you recently did for a Herschell Gordon Lewis movie.

Jeano - It's actually Tim Sullivan's second sequel to HGL's 2000 Maniacs called 2001 Maniacs - Field of Screams. The latest update to the infamous "The South Will Rise Again" theme from the original movie. Psychocharger from NYC, who I work with from time to time cut the track and at the time their main man Jimmy Psycho was physically unable to play guitar so I laid down several guitar and vocal tracks and mixed the song for the band. My wife Tanya did some evil screams for the track as well.. The movie comes out this summer..

Doc G - What are the future plans for the Creeping Cruds?

Jeano - We're gonna bring the Rock and bring the Horror! Maybe a Creeping Cruds movie should be made.. who knows..

Doc G - I want to salute you for your years of dead-icated service bringing horror to the music city capitol of the world. Long live the Cruds.

Jeano - Thanks Dr. Gangrene! We owe ALOT to you - so thanks a bunch! Come on down to The Lone Wolf Horror Con and visit the Creeping Cruds table!

Doc G - Thanks again for hanging out in my lab for a bit. It’s time to go feed the bats down in the catacombs now, so I must be going. To find out more about The Creeping Cruds visit www.creepingcruds.com and be sure to buy some CDs and tshirts and other goodies while you’re there. Support your local ghouls, that’s my motto! You can meet them live at the Lone Wolf Full Moon Tattoo Festival in Nashville April 24-26 at the Nashville Airport Marriott hotel.
